Learn more about this chronic skin condition and see if there is a clinical trial near you.
What factors may cause atopic dermatitis?
Genetics. People who come from families with a history of AD, asthma or hay fever are more likely to develop AD.
Immune system. In people with AD, the immune system (body's self-defense) over-reacts to triggers inside or outside the body. The resulting inflammation causes red, itchy, and painful skin symptoms.
Environment. Many people try their best to identify and avoid triggers in their environment, but AD is an unpredictable disease. Flares can still happen despite your best efforts.
